So I’m currently working through the Love at First Stitch patterns by Tilly Walnes (not in order I must add!) I started with the Megan Dress which is explained in my previous post, this which was a joy to make however, the Margot Pyjamas were so easy to put together and I would definitely recommend this for a beginner’s first dressmaking project.
I bought my fabric from Sew On Sew On, a store in FarGo Village in the Coventry City Centre, it was a cotton on sale at £5 a metre. Unfortunately I do not know what type of cotton it is but I do know that it is a great lightweight summer pyjama material even if they are long in length. I also bought the ribbon from there too, for £1 a metre.
I started off by tracing the paper pattern onto tracing paper, (the original is too good to use!) and then I cut both the pattern and the fabric out. One thing I will mention is that the legs looked like they would be way too big for me even though I followed the sizing correctly. However, these pyjamas are not supposed to be fitted and they are super cosy when on and look great!
The instructions within Love at First Stitch are fabulous, they clearly explain each step and include colourful photos too – Thank you for making dressmaking so simple Tilly!
I wanted this to be a quick make therefore I didn't add any extras although when I make another pair I will be adding pockets! Got to love pockets – Maybe I’ll make some more for when the winter comes around again, sorry to say but it will be here before we know it.
I only had to make one alternation and this was completely down to me being short! I had to adjust the original length by a bit so that the material wouldn't drag along the floor behind me.
And to add the cherry on top, this is the first garment that has been beautifully finished by my new overlocker! Even though it’s not essential it really does make a huge quality difference - Overlocker J’Adore!
